The University of Arizona Utilizes OrgSync to Host 23rd Annual National Collegiate Leadership Conference

15 student leaders successfully plan and execute three day leadership conference for 600 students

Tucson, AZ – On February 18-20, 2011, 15 students from The University of Arizona conducted the 23rd annual National Collegiate Leadership Conference (“NCLC”) attended by 600 student leaders representing 21 states and more than 50 institutions. NCLC is a student-run annual conference recognized as the premier leadership conference providing hands-on training and leadership experiences for college students across the nation.

NCLC started in 1989 as the "First Annual Collegiate Institute for Leadership: Challenges for the 21st Century." It began as a one day conference with 12 workshops and a keynote speaker. “Over the years, the conference has grown from a half-day conference for U of A students to a regional and now a national conference that spans three days and boasts nearly 80 workshops,” says Tom Murray, Coordinator of Leadership Programs at The University of Arizona.

Today, the conference covers three days of leadership development activities including workshops, service projects, team building exercises, excursions to local Tucson attractions and multiple guest speakers. The themes for this year were Personal Leadership Development, Leadership Best Practices, Issues in Leadership, and Leadership Transformation.

OrgSync, a Company that provides community management solutions for higher education, has been a partner of NCLC since 2008 and was cited as a cornerstone for the planning committee. “The conference wouldn’t work if we didn’t have OrgSync,” said Samantha Bass, Conference Chair for NCLC and Student Leader at The University of Arizona. “OrgSync makes our lives much easier. With OrgSync, we can oversee everyone and make sure everyone knows what they should be doing.”

The University of Arizona is one of OrgSync’s flagship campuses and has used the Company’s web-based application since 2007. The campus uses OrgSync to help manage all of the student organizations in addition to 10 other leadership programs that include the Arizona Blue Chip Program and ATLAS Leadership Certificate Program.

“This was one of the best run conferences I have ever attended,” said Eric Fortenberry, President & CEO of OrgSync. “Even more impressive is the impact that NCLC makes on 600 student leaders every conference they host. The leadership development model is phenomenal, and I hope to see many more of our campus partners implementing similar programs to help develop their students’ leadership skills and experiences.”
